Tactacam DEFEND Launches Suite of In-App Updates to Cellular Security Camera Platform

Software updates introduce AI Object Tracking, 2-Way Audio and More

BILLINGS, Montana, Aug. 21, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Tactacam — America’s leading manufacturer of advanced outdoor camera technology — today announces multiple new software functions to its popular DEFEND security cameras and DEFEND mobile application. New standard features available in the DEFEND app include Recording Live View, 2-Way Audio, a Security Alarm, and Battery Center. Additionally, users can utilize unique new functions by subscribing to the DEFEND Plus add-on data plan, including AI Detection, AI Object Tracking (*with DEFEND 360 Cameras), DEFEND Live View, Event Storylines, and more.

DEFEND cellular cameras operate entirely via a cellular network, transmitting high-quality photo and video beyond the ring of Wi-Fi. The 4G DEFEND 360 camera features a rugged, weatherproof build and comes standard with a rechargeable lithium battery and solar panel for reliable outdoor operation.

The new standard features are available across existing DEFEND Cameras and DEFEND 360 Cameras via the DEFEND mobile application. The brand’s Recording Live View technology allows users to record “Live View” video sessions in any DEFEND camera product and will save the recording to a phone’s camera roll. The new 2-Way Audio function — available for DEFEND 360 cameras only — gives users the ability to directly communicate from the DEFEND mobile application to a speaker on the camera when using Live View. Additionally, all DEFEND 360 cameras now offer an audible Security Alarm with the simple push of a button while in Live View to prevent theft while users are away from their property.

Lastly, all DEFEND camera models now feature a Battery Center, providing detailed battery information and diagnostic tools to help users better understand battery usage, analyze their camera settings, and maximize time between changing or charging batteries.

A popular value-add option for any DEFEND data plan, the new PLUS subscription functionality is highlighted by AI Detection, which detects humans, vehicles, or animals and auto-tags images or videos with unique tags for easy filtering within the DEFEND application. Additionally, DEFEND 360 cameras now feature AI Object Tracking, which automatically follows the movements of humans, vehicles, or both when the feature is turned on. The tracked movement is recorded via video, and the video can be downloaded within the mobile app for viewing. Once the tracked video finishes recording, the DEFEND 360 camera automatically returns to the start point to monitor for more motion alerts.

Furthermore, the DEFEND PLUS subscription plan now offers DEFEND View, which provides Live Viewing for up to four cameras simultaneously in a CCTV style format for real-time site management. This helps users quickly check in on different locations to monitor multiple areas at once. Lastly, new Event Storylines functionality automatically groups related events in the event feed, by site, for a comprehensive overview of an incident, offering the ability to stitch images together into a slide-show style video of what occurred on site. 

With the addition of these advanced tech features, the cost of the DEFEND PLUS add-on subscription will not change. The nearly 50% of Tactacam DEFEND users that currently utilize PLUS will receive these features at no additional cost. Users who do not currently have PLUS plans can easily add the subscription for just $9/month (USD), covering all DEFEND cameras on the account.
